Licence Applications for Events Over the Christmas Period
The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 has a close down period for processing of licence applications from 20 December to 15 January.
Do you want to hold an event that requires a Special Licence in December or January?
Special Licences are required to be submitted 20 working days prior to the event. If you do not allow 20 working days excluding the close down period you may still submit your Special Licence application however you will require a waiver from the District Licensing Committee. There is no guarantee that the application or the waiver request will be accepted.
What is a waiver?
When you request Licences outside of the legislative time-frames you are required to request a waiver from the District Licensing Committee. When you request a waiver you must include the following details:
- "Waiver Request" contained within the subject line.
- Reason as to why your Special Licence application is late eg - last minute wedding booking.
The sale of alcohol to any member of the public requires a licence under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
