Due to the recent weather events (January and March 2026), some walkways/cycleways are closed. These include:
- Cooney Reserve to Beach Grove Reserve, Ōmokoroa - Work commencing Tuesday 27 October, to renew and strengthen the rock seawall at Beach Grove Reserve, will take 8-10 weeks to complete, dependent on weather and tidal conditions. As the path is too narrow for people to use safely while work is underway, a signed detour via Cooney Reserve and Ōmokoroa Road will be available. Please the webpage for further information.
- The Ōmokoroa to Tauranga Cycleway - The Wairoa Bridge cycleway is now OPEN after temporary safety improvements were completed. Some areas remain narrow so cyclists should take care and dismount where required. Tauranga City Council and New Zealand Transport Agency are working on the design work for permanent repairs due to damaged sections of the cycleway embankment caused by waterlogged grounds and slips. There are no other known closures along the cycleway between Tauranga and Ōmokoroa.
- Caution is needed on the cycleway between Ōmokoroa Esplanade to Beach Grove as the track is narrowly taped off due to cracking at the edge of the track.
- The Kaimai Views track is OPEN.
- Kaiate Falls (Te Rerekawau) remains CLOSED.
- The ‘informal’ track at Sandleigh Drive Esplanade Reserve in Athenree is CLOSED, due to a slip.
Any weather related clean-up work will be prioritised according to risk and will be ongoing for a period of time.
