Our cemeteries
Council manages five cemeteries at Maketu, Te Puke, Oropi and Katikati.
The Katikati and Te Puke cemetery have a Returned Services section as well as a children's section (13 years and under).
All cemeteries are interdenominational.
A natural burials area is planned as part of the proposed extension to the Te Puke Cemetery. This is currently at the initial design phase only, with further information to follow. There are no other natural burial areas within the Western Bay of Plenty District. Thames-Coromandel District Council allow natural burials at the Omahu Cemetery, near Paeora, and the Whakatāne District Council allow natural burials at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Please contact them for further information.
Cemetery records can be accessed from Council's Barkes Corner Office (in Greerton, Tauranga). Digital records are available at Council service centres. Alternatively, you can use the online Cemetery Records Search function at the top of this page, to search for loved ones.
You can make enquiries for genealogical purposes at our service centres, or by emailing info@westernbay.govt.nz
