$50,000 CCTV Fund opens for Western Bay communities
Is there a public space in your community where a CCTV camera could make a difference?
Applications are now open for Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s CCTV Fund, with $50,000 available to support new cameras in shared public spaces across the District.
The fund is aimed at helping deter crime and anti-social behaviour while strengthening the CCTV (closed circuit television) network across the Western Bay.
Over the past five years, it has supported the installation of 29 new cameras.
Proposed cameras must be in shared public spaces and cannot be located on private property.
Applications are considered by a panel including Councillors, Council’s Operations Manager Kerrie Little and a New Zealand Police representative.
“CCTV cameras can provide an extra level of reassurance in the places people use every day,” says Kerrie.
“It’s one part of the bigger picture when it comes to looking after our shared spaces, and having cameras in the right locations can also provide useful information when incidents do occur. We’re keen to hear from communities about where they see a need and why they think a camera would be worthwhile.”

Applications close 5pm, Sunday 8 November 2026.
