Discharge of Non-Toxic Dye – Tauranga Harbour

Western Bay of Plenty District Council wishes to advise the public that a non-toxic dye will be released into Tauranga Harbour for monitoring purposes.
Details of the discharge:
- Area: Tauranga Harbour – between Prospect Drive, Katikati and Matakana Island (depending on the location of the break) / outfall diffuser – ocean side of Matakana Island
- Type of discharge: Non-toxic Bailey Drain Tracing Dye
- Reason: To help detect a leak in the outfall pipe by making it visible to a drone
- Duration: Up to 48 hours (depending on how long it takes to locate the leak)
This activity is being carried out in accordance with Rule 18 (DW R2) – Permitted Discharge of Dye or Gas Tracers under the Bay of Plenty Regional Natural Resources Plan.
⚠️ Please note: The dye is non-toxic and poses no risk to people, animals, or the environment. Some discolouration of the water may be visible during this time.
Warning signs remain in place around Tauranga Harbour.
