Work will begin next week to renew and strengthen the rock seawall at Ōmokoroa’s Beach Grove Reserve.
The work is expected to start on Tuesday 27 October, and take 8-10 weeks to complete, dependant on weather and tidal conditions.
During that time, a section of the shared pathway, between Beach Grove and Cooney Reserve, will be closed for 3-4 weeks, as the path is too narrow for people to use safely while work is underway. A signed detour via Cooney Reserve and Ōmokoroa Road will be available.
The boat ramp will remain open, but grass reserve areas on either side will be temporarily closed to allow materials and equipment to be safely stored and moved. Parking along this section of Beach Grove will also be unavailable.
“High tides and waves have gradually worn away at the seawall, so it’s important we strengthen it to protect the reserve and pathway. People will see trucks, machinery and large rocks moving through the reserve while the work is underway, so please take care and follow the signs,” says Janine Field, Western Bay of Plenty District Council Reserves and Facilities Manager.
“This work will help keep the area safe and accessible so people can continue to enjoy it for years to come.”
