Help make a place future generations will thank you for
The choices we make today will shape life in our towns for decades. That’s why Western Bay residents are being called to join the Community Quest.
From 26 February to 1 April, whānau, friends, and neighbours across the Western Bay can take part by filling out a simple survey – and go in the draw to win a $100 grocery voucher.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council is working on several long-term planning projects that will guide how towns across the District grow and evolve over the next 30 to 50 years.
Council’s Interim General Manager – Strategy and Community, Emily Watton, says the Community Quest is about making sure communities are at the heart of decisions that will affect their towns for decades.
“These plans will play a key role in shaping how we manage growth in our District, while understanding what’s important to protect and retain,” says Emily.
“That’s why we want to hear from as many people as possible, so their voices and aspirations are front and centre.
“We’ve created the Quest – a short, simple survey, plus fun family events – to check our work so far and understand what really matters to locals.
“This is about making sure future generations inherit towns that are vibrant, connected, and still feel like home.”
Taking part is simple. The Community Quest survey can be completed online in 5-10 minutes or at Council service centres across the district.
People can also take part at one of the free, family-friendly Community Quest events being held in Waihī Beach, Katikati, Te Puna, and Te Puke.
With games, activities, entertainment, and free food, the events offer a fun and meaningful way for people of all ages to take part together.
Emily says there’s real power when communities step up collectively.
“When you take part, you’re not just answering questions,” she says. “You’re making sure the places we love today are still places people are proud to call home in 30 years’ time.”
The Community Quest is open until 1 April. You can complete the survey at yourplace.westernbay.govt.nz. Every entry goes in the draw to win one of 10 $100 grocery vouchers.
