Western Bay of Plenty District Council is one step closer to confirming who will represent the District for the next three years.
Preliminary results released today (Monday 13 October) show James Denyer will be re-elected as Mayor of the Western Bay for the 2025-2028 electoral term.
The voter return was 37.61%, being 15,061 votes, excluding special votes.
The preliminary count adds voting papers received on election day to Saturday’s progress results, representing approximately 95 per cent of all votes cast. Special votes are still to be validated and counted.
The updated results show no changes to the Mayoralty or Councillor positions, with one change in the Maketu Community Board where Weina Moko has replaced Ieni (Beau) Walters in the top four elected positions.

Māori Ward Referendum
Alongside the Council elections, voting also took place on the Māori Ward referendum.
Preliminary results have 8359 votes to remove the Māori Ward after the 2025-2028 triennium versus 5788 votes to keep the Māori Ward.
