Update Monday 10 July
Anyone travelling at night on State Highway 2, North of Katikati should prepare for delays while urgent works on an important watermain pipe take place.
Stop/go traffic management will be in place to allow Western Bay of Plenty District Council to carry out the repairs at Uretara Bridge State Highway 2, after the pipe was weakened by debris from previous floods.
Stop /go traffic management will be in place from around 7pm to 5am starting on Monday 10 July, and continuing for four days.
Scaffolding will be installed on the nights of Monday and Tuesday 10-11 July. Pipe repair work will take place on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 July.
If the pipe damage deteriorates further – Council will be working with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to continue the repair work during the day and get the pipe fixed as soon as possible.
Council has controls in place to ensure that if the watermain were to fail, the water supply to residents in Katikati will not be affected.
