The shared path was officially opened by Western Bay of Plenty Deputy Mayor John Scrimgeour 7 May 2021, with fellow Te Puke-Maketu Ward councillors and Maketu Community Board members in attendance.
This is another strategic piece of cycleway which in time will link up with the Tauranga Eastern Link Cycleway.
Length: 1.4km
About the track: The 2.5m wide pathway starts at the cnr of Maketu and Kaituna Road and goes up to entrance of the Maketu township. It was constructed by Westlink and is part of Council’s Walking and Cycling Action Plan 2020-2021.
What’s to see along the way?
- The track has some great views of the Maketu Estuary.
- Maketu is of course home to the famous Maketu Pies.
- Kotukutuku Gully is only a 15 minute walk away from the Maketu Township entrance.
