The Tauranga Moana and Te Arawa ki Tai Partnership Forum
Role and function
The Partnership Forum replaces Te Komiti Maori as the vehicle for Tangata Whenua to engage with Council on the significant issues facing their communities. The Partnership Forum has developed Te Ara Mua, a strategic plan that forms the basis of the Partnership Forum's work programme and outlines how the significant issues will be addressed.
The Terms of Reference for the Partnership Forum outlines its vision, purpose, mission and principles as follows -
Purpose: Better outcomes for Māori, a sustainable environment and healthy empowered communities.
Te Pae Tawhiti/Vision: A district where the environment is protected and enhanced; people and communities are healthy, prosperous and empowered.
Te Kaupapa/Mission: Our relationship is an "equal partnership" recognising the strength of working together to achieve better outcomes for our communities.
- Courageous, committed, proactive and evolving.
- Good faith, mutual respect and understanding.
- Effective management / Kaitiakitanga.
- Effective governance / Rangatiratanga.
The Partnership Forum is made up of iwi and hapu representatives across our district together with the all the Western Bay of Plenty District Councillors and the Mayor.
