Sign up to ShakeOut
We want to see lots of Western Bay schools, workplaces, community groups, families and individuals taking part in the 2022 ShakeOut and Tsunami Hikoi - our national earthquake drill and tsunami evacuation walk at 9.30am on Thursday 27 October.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to practice what to do during an earthquake - Drop, Cover and Hold. This action will stop you being knocked over, makes you a smaller target for falling and flying objects, and protects your head, neck and vital organs.
If you’re in a coastal location, you can also practice a tsunami hikoi at the same time. Follow your tsunami evacuation plan to get to higher ground or as far inland as possible. Check out the evacuation maps here, and remember – if an earthquake is Long or Strong, Get Gone.
