What do I need a building consent for?
You will need a building consent for:

  • Any deck more than 1 metre above ground level.
  • Any wall or fence more than 2 metres high.
  • Excavation work.
  • Free-standing solid-fuel heaters/fire places.
  • New buildings, or demolition of buildings, relocation of buildings.
  • New plumbing and drainage work.
  • Retaining walls higher than 1.5 metres above their foundation. Note - other criteria may apply so please contact Council for more information.
  • Sheds, glasshouses or conservatories over ten square metres in area.
  • Swimming pools or large tanks.


How do I apply for a building consent?
You will need to complete a building consent application form and attach two copies of all plans and any other relevant information.
