Rates

Rates at a glance

Rates are Council's main source of income for providing and maintaining essential servies for residents throughout the District.  For this reason Council has budgeted on receiving $26.6 million from district-wide rates in 2009/2010.

Our rating system is designed to provide for both District-wide rates and those rates raised for activities specific to localised areas.

Council strikes the rates in August each year.

How your rates are assessed

Historically rates have been assessed on the land value of your property.  However, with effect from 2009/10, rates are being assessed on a "hybrid'' basis.  This means that the rates assessed for roading will be calculated on a land-value basis but the balance of the rates (general rate) will be assessed on the capital value of your property.

When are rates due?

Rates invoices for the year 2009/10 were mailed out at the end of August 2009.

Two payment dates have passed.

25 September 2009:  final day for the final payment for the 2009 rates.
23 October 2009:  first instalment of 2010 rates

Next payment date:

26 March 2010: second instalment. To avoid a 10% penalty the rates instalment must be paid by this date.

Do I have payment options?

There are several payment options available:

- Direct Debit
- Post
- Internet/Phone banking
- In Person
- Automatic payments
