Parks

The Western Bay of Plenty District is blessed with a wide variety of parks, reserves and walking tracks.

Stretching from Orokawa Scenic Reserve just north of Waihi Beach along the western coast to the Papamoa Hills Cultural Heritage Regional Park, there's something on offer for everyone.

If you're a walker you can choose from routes that run along the beach to others that reach the top of the Kaimai Range. Each walk, has its own walking route map and access directions.

Please note that dogs are banned on some walking tracks, so it would pay to check this out before setting off from home with your dog - thanks!

TECT All Terrain Park

The TECT All Terrain Park is situated off State Highway 36, the main road link between Tauranga and Rotorua. Once the park is open users will only need to travel 29kms from Tauranga, 27kms from Rotorua or 30kms from Te Puke to get to the park.

Current status
Currently infrastructure is being upgraded and user groups are working on their own development proposals.

The park is not open to the public yet.

Harbourside Park opens

The foresight of landowners, councils, tangata whenua and the wider community has been credited for the preservation of the harbourside reserve Huharua Park at Plummer's Point which was opened last week.

The 8.7 hectare reserve is located at the end of Plummer's Point Road bounded by the Tauranga Harbour to the north and lies within the rohe of the Pirirakau hapu of Ngati Ranginui iwi, descendants of the Takitimu waka.

Western Bay and Tauranga mayors Ross Paterson and Stuart Crosby officially open the park.
