Shoreline Protection - what's underway

Construction preparation - residents will be seeing increased activity at Coronation Park and other sites along the foreshore (Hillary Street, Ayr Street and Three Mile Creek) where equipment, rock and other materials are being located in preparation for construction.

Council asks that people stay away from the construction area for safety reasons.  There will be ample signage indicating “no-go’’ areas.

Tender process - this process has been completed with Transfield Services Limited being the successful tenderer.  For more information, please see the update provided below.

Timing of work - it will be up to the successful tenderer to confirm the exact sequencing of the construction works.  Council expects to get the actual construction underway after Easter weekend.

Staging - Stages 1 and 2 will include construction of a rock revetment fronting Shaw Road and along the foreshore neighbouring The Loop.

Stage 3 will include nourishment of beach dunes at Shaw Road and Glen Isla Place and is proposed to be completed by the end of August 2010.  This work will involve excavating sand from defined foreshore areas to rebuild the existing frontal dunes.

Our aim is not to disrupt residents and visitors to the Beach during the peak summer period and we expect all three stages to be completed by Labour weekend 2010.
