SmartGrowth Eastern Corridor moves forward
The SmartGrowth Eastern Corridor covering east of Domain Road in Papamoa, Te Puke and Rangiuru is an area within which all the benefits of population growth and economic development can be pulled together successfully.
Why the SmartGrowth Eastern Corridor?
• Because this area provides the last large ‘greenfields’ location close to
Tauranga City.
• There are limited options for development elsewhere due to constraints such as
the lie of the land and the need to protect some of our special ecological areas.
• Developing Papamoa East, Te Puke and Rangiuru will support and complement
existing areas south east of Mount Maunganui.
In broad terms, future development in this area is expected to generate around $8.5 billion to the western Bay. This includes:
• 17,500 new homes.
• 450 hectares of industrial development.
• Up to 100,000 square metres of shops, office and commercial activity.
In addition there’ll be new schools, health facilities and recreational space. However, the key to making sure all this works will be a central road link and this will be the Tauranga Eastern Motorway.
