Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council has met with the ratepayers in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council reported that recent water quality testing results show an improvement in water quality in the harbour at Tanners Pt. The water quality in the drain next to the boat ramp is still not meeting the water quality requirements and Bay of Plenty Regional Council in conjunction with Western Bay of Plenty District Council are investigating the following proposal by Bay of Plenty Regional Council:
Installation of a small packaged treatment plant to treat wastewater from the local toilet and localized ground water. All properties are to remain on a maintenance programme that includes septic tank pump outs and inspections. Septic tank failures are to be corrected. Soak holes are to become discretionary in December 2010.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council to extend the December 2010 deadline requiring properties in the Maintenance Zone to upgrade to advanced septic tanks. The deadline will be extended 5-years beyond December 2010 and Bay of Plenty Regional Council will continue to monitor water quality in the Tauranga Harbour. If the water quality in the harbour shows continued improvement over the extended deadline to a satisfactory standard, Bay of Plenty Regional Council will re-evaluate whether Tanners Pt requires Maintenance Zone status.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council sent the ratepayers a survey to asses how the community felt about the proposal.
