Omokoroa Comprehensive Development Plan

The Western Bay of Plenty District Council has begun work to develop a comprehensive development plan for Omokoroa.  While many of the big infrastructure items have been ticked off, such as the wastewater scheme, there are still a number of things that need to be fine-tuned.  This is where the draft comprehensive development plan (CDP) comes into play. The draft CDP for Omokoroa will capture current and future initiatives for the peninsula.  Council staff intend to meet with community groups and schools and work with people to look to the future and envisage how they want their community to be, as it grows and develops, and to think about how this could be done over the next 20 years.

The Comprehensive Development Plan:

  • Brings together current plans and future proposals to take Omokoroa forward.
  • Expresses a vision.
  • Includes actions to achieve the vision, along with timeframes identifying when these should occur.
  • Has actions that involve Council as well as a community groups, government and non-government organisations.

The CDP will feed into Council’s other plans such as the Long Term Plan, and Annual Plan and budget.  For example some actions identified in the CDP will be implemented through the 10 year Long Term Plan, SmartGrowth, Omokoroa Built Environment Strategy and the Kaimai Ward Reserves Management Plan.
The CDP will also ‘feed into’ the beach development plan and the commercial centre plan currently being developed.

What are the gaps to be filled?
