Major Projects

Helping build a District for the future

There's much more to Council than meets the eye.

As well as providing a myriad of services and facilities for our ratepayers, Council plays a big part in infrastructural and development initiatives throughout the District to meet the needs of a growing population.

Here's what happens every week that goes by in the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region, this includes the Western Bay of Plenty District and Tauranga City:

  • 135 people arrive to live from other places
  • 66 people leave the area
  • 30 new houses are built
  • 60 more vehicles go on our roads
  • 51 new jobs are created

The population of the western Bay of Plenty sub-region in 2001 was 130,000. This is predicted to increase to 198,000 by 2021 and to 286,000 by 2051.

The projects contained in this section highlight some of the work Council is doing on its own and in association with other local authorities to ensure the District and the sub-region continues to be one of the best places in New Zealand to live, work and play.
