Role:
Subject to compliance with Council strategies, policies, plans and legislation:
- To develop relationships in appropriate community sectors to enable Council to achieve community outcomes and strategies as described in the Long Term Council Community Plan for sustainable, strong, healthy and safe communities
- To develop for recommendation to the Policy Committee the strategies, plans, programmes and policies for co-ordination with other agencies including but not restricted to government and community agencies to further community development outcomes
- To maintain a monitoring role on community development programmes
- To establish a strategic focus to align Council community, economic, cultural, social and environmental development programmes with community outcomes as set in the Long Term Council Community Plan
Delegations:
- To facilitate the involvement of external agencies in achieving community outcomes as described in the Long Term Council Community Plan
- To promote and advocate on behalf of Council the co-ordination of community services and agencies for the well-being of the community
- To advise the Policy Committee and Council on plans, policies and projects to achieve the outcomes required in the role of the Committee
- To develop and promote strategies and programmes to facilitate community participation in issues of climate change and environmental protection
- To monitor the performance and receive presentations from Council’s service delivery providers as follows:
- Focus Te Puke
- Katch Katikati
- Citizens Advice Bureau
- Surf Lifesaving Bay of Plenty
- Sport Bay of Plenty
- Wild About New Zealand
- Katikati Resource Centre
- Creative Tauranga
- Any other service delivery providers as may be directed from Council
Financial Delegations:
- To decide on the allocation of Council’s community funding grants reserve account as recommended by the Discretionary Grants Subcommittee
- To resolve community fee abatement applications subject to budget provisions To make recommendations to Council or its Committees on any matters to achieve the outcomes required in the role of the Committee but outside its delegated authorities
- The Committee may delegate any of its functions, duties or powers to a subcommittee subject to the restrictions on its delegations and provided that any subdelegation to subcommittees includes a statement of purpose and specification of task
