Pohutukawa Park, Broadlands Block Reserve and Waihi Beach Community Centre Reserve Concept Plans

Friday 01 May 2009

The Waihi Beach Ward Reserve Management Plan highlighted the need for Council to involve the community in planning for Pohutukawa Park and the Broadlands Block Reserve including the Waihi Beach Community Centre Reserve. Therefore four Draft Concept Plans (Note: Pohutukawa Park has 2 Options) have been prepared for community feedback and comment.

Four Draft Concept Plans (Note: Pohutukawa Park has 2 Options) have been prepared for community consultation.
Pohutukawa Park
Active use is impacting on the park’s passive qualities and those of the surrounding Reserves. Future planning needs further consideration by the Waihi Beach community, therefore two Draft Concept Plans have been prepared showing the retention or removal of tennis at Pohutukawa Park. Alternatively, tennis facilities could be provided across the Waihi Beach community.
A natural amphitheatre is planned at Wilson Park which raises the question of whether the Pohutukawa Park Soundshell should be retained. It was built by volunteers and now requires an upgrade; however a rebuild may be necessary.

Waihi Beach Community Centre Reserve
A Draft Concept Plan has been prepared to show more tennis courts on the Waihi Beach Community Centre Reserve if it is decided that tennis is removed from Pohutukawa Park. It is also possible that additional community buildings/facilities may be located at this site.

Broadlands Block Reserve
The Broadlands Block Reserve Draft Concept Plan shows how Council proposes to integrate wetland features by linkages and walkways with storm water management. The proposed subdivision at the Edinburgh Street end and another on the western side adjoining Waihi Beach Road are also shown in the draft.

Funding
The draft 2009 – 2019 LTCCP shows funds for projects for each of the three reserves plus Wilson Park Reserve totalling just over $1million. If a large majority of the Waihi Beach Community is in favour of redistributing funds between the three reserves or transferring the funds from Wilson Park to the THREE reserves, Council would consider reallocating funds to the projects for the three reserves deemed to have the highest priority.

Please provide your responses and feedback to questions in the Submission Form about the four Concept Plans;
