Maritime New Zealand are the lead government agency responsible for co-ordinating the response.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council are the lead local government agency providing support to Maritime New Zealand.  Local councils including the Western Bay of Plenty District Council are working to support these efforts as and when required.

To report sightings of any debris or containers washing ashore please call 0800 333 771.

To report sightings of oil
If you see oil on the beach in significant quantity please call 0800 OIL SPILL (0800 645 774).

Beach cleanup volunteers
If you’re interested in volunteering to assist with the cleanup effort please call 0800 645 774 or register on line at www.boprc.govt.nz/oilspillvolunteers/ or email iccrena@gmail.com with 'Volunteers – 1 for all' in the subject line for any other details.
